Robert Hood is a My aerospace engineering activities include Defence, Australian Industry and RMIT University. Particularly, in the fields of management, structural analysis teaching and aerodynamic loading research. Experience in management was gained while serving as a RAAF Engineering Officer during my role as airworthiness program manager of the Mirage and Macchi aircraft. Following employment in Australian industry, this first hand knowledge enabled me to calculate continuing service lives for the Macchi in particular. As program manager for the Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) of F/A-18 aircraft my knowledge of these specific specification requirements enabled realistic targets to be set for the system. Following a move to the airframe factory in 1990 to examine the build and assembly processes, I led a team of engineers to improve the manufacturing systems. I was awarded a commendation from Northrop Corporation for my contribution to the improvement program for Australian F/A-18 Doors Manufacturing Program. In 1995, a downturn occurred in manufacturing and I moved to a permanent position at the Aeronautical School at RMIT University. I had previously been an industry lecturer at RMIT and was a logical move for me. Here, I had responsibility for structures teaching and led a research group in aerodynamic loading. Among other things I lectured defence personnel in Singapore and ran the CAR 35 engineer training course for CASA. From 2004 to 2012, I moved GKN Aerospace Services as a principal analyst leading design groups for JSF Design, defence helicopter modifications, Airbus fatigue evaluation and prepared the stress analysis review on the new A320 Neo wing. This latter task set the control points for the durability and damage tolerance activity for the new wing. As my retired life continues I am available to provide direction and mentoring in any of the experience areas mentioned here
