I have a particular interest in the areas of antimicrobial discovery, antimicrobial resistance and all realms of infection prevention & control. I have a deep passion for pushing basic research forward in these areas and translating that research towards clinical solutions for patients - especially antimicrobials, and microbial diagnostic tools. My research career had humble beginnings as a research nurse evaluating small scale quality improvement activities, as I grew with the role, there were calls for me to take my skills further and pursue a PhD. In 2022 I began my PhD at The University of Western Australia in Professor Mark Nicol's research group. My project focuses on repurposing existing technologies to create a novel method involving high throughput screening of synthetic bacterial communities for potential interactions that could be protective to the host, or a source of bacterially synthetsised biotherapeutic agents. Having studied at the Royal Military College - Duntroon, I have strong leadership and teamwork skills. Indeed, much of my clinical career has been in critical care where strong interprofessional communication was essential to achieve optimal patient outcomes, due to the complex nature of the patients. I continue to serve WA Department of Health in a non-clinical advisory capacity to intensive care units statewide.
