I have never approached anyone to 'be my friend' here, nor have I asked anyone to endorse any particular 'skill'. It's all a bit embarrassing, tiresome and pathetic, is it not? I joined up as a favour to someone many years ago because he wanted me to say some positive things about him, which was ok, as he is a very able chap. Since then I have linked with people who've asked by email, provided I can actually remember them and they're not total plonkers. But you've got to admit, the whole thing is a bit dodgy. Look how popular I am, look how well connected I am (often not), look how clever I am, look how successful I have been. Also, look at these things I have seen and recommend that show how relevant and discerning I am. Validate me and help make me look good, and I'll do the same for you. Bullshit. Maybe I've got it all wrong. Membership might prove a handy way to track someone down. It's good to hear from real friends past and present, and long forgotten former colleagues, and just occasionally someone gets in touch who might be a useful new contact. I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone, but I can't bring myself to play the game.
