The role involved starting in a brand new section as before but to be in a position of driving and directing where and how the precast was to go. The first few months were spent in getting the factory systems working and developing the drawing/design office procedures. I hired the office and factory staff together with obtaining the work. Once obtained, I carried out the designs and the drawing office then detailed the projects. At our largest I had 2No. engineers, a draughtsman, Factory Manager and Contracts Manager reporting to me together with 15No. operatives in the factory and loading yard. I have worked in the civil engineering industry for 22 years. I graduated from UC Swansea with an Honors degree in Civil Engineering and went immediately to work for the Property Services Agency. My range of experience varied from predominately military accommodation refurbishment and construction to runway repairs and construction. My field of responsibility broadened to include the design of prisons and young offenders institutions, crown and county courts, both refurb of listed buildings and new build, laboratories for the Ministry of Agriculture and multistory office buildings for various government departments. Once PSA had been privatized my field of experience expanded to civil projects including multiplex cinemas, restaurants/retail outlets, and spec office/warehouse developments. I left PSA to join Roger Bullivant as a Senior Engineer in a fledgling department tasked with the design and detailing of large scale pre-cast concrete elements making up large portions of new developments. My position broadened to Design Manager with up to 5No Draughtspersons reporting to me. I then moved to pre-sales, providing all technical and drawings assistance to the team of sales people prior to the order being secured.
