  Richard Leland is a I have practiced in the areas of Environmental Law and Land Use for more than 40 years, with an emphasis on representation of developers and institutions in project approvals in the New York City Metropolitan Area. This includes counselling, administrative law and litigation in all aspects of development and environmental law and regulation. Projects that I've worked on have included the expansion of a major New York-based university, large transportation projects, as well as work for hospitals and other non-profit entities. Over the years, I have represented developers of significant sports venues in and around New York City as environmental, land use, and litigation counsel, including Citifield (home of the NY Mets), Barclays Center (home of the Brooklyn Nets), and a new arena for the New York Islanders that is now under construction at Belmont Park in Nassau County. I am now also practicing with Akeman in West Palm Beach, Florida, where I will continue to represent clients in all aspects of environmental and land use matters. More recently, I have done a great deal of work in the outdoor advertising space, representing owners and outdoor advertising companies in leasing and regulatory matters. In addition, I have been an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation since 2009, teaching real estate law to candidates for Master's Degrees in Real Estate Development.
