I work with children, young people/adolescents, adults, couples and families. I am a specialist LGBTQIA+ counsellor and supervisor, with a particular focus on counselling gender diverse and transgender young people. In 2018 I wrote and validated the BSc (Hons) in Counselling for University Centre Farnborough and now teach on the course weekly. Writing the BSc (Hons) brought together 15 years experience of lecturing on counselling courses from level 1-7 together with my experience in education and curriculum design and management. At the Centre For Wellbeing at the University of Surrey I work with a solution focused, brief intervention approach. I am trained in Single Session Therapy and have received supervision with Professor Windy Dryden. I am the Sexuality, Gender and Relationship Diversity Expert within the multidisciplinary team and have advised on policy, published information and specialist services for transgender students and staff. I am the Placement Counsellor Co-ordinator; this involves managing the recruitment, delivering the induction training and generally ensuring the placement experience at Surrey runs smoothly. In private practice, I support children and young people who are questioning their gender, those who are in the transition process, or have transitioned. It is important that children and young people have support from a sensitive, caring and knowledgeable counsellor who can be along side them as they live the gender they really are. Transitioning can be extremely medicalised with highly structured goals to meet; in therapy, I provide the antidote to this by really engaging with the human being, offering compassion, empathy and acceptance. As a qualified, experienced and BACP Senior Accredited Supervisor (of Individuals) I work with both trainee and qualified counsellors. My intention is to motivate, encourage, guide, monitor and support my supervisees to offer the best to their clients and to develop as a practitioner. In addition to providing private practice supervision, I am a group supervisor for Youthline; this involves providing supervision for youth counsellors and school counsellors. Since 2018 I have been a freelance trainer, providing CPD for counsellors and educators on topics such as Sexuality, Gender Diversity and Transgender, Counselling Adolescents and EDI in Supervision.
