Ricardo FontesCarvalho Email & Phone Number | Ricardo Fontes-Carvalho, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC is currently Head of Cardiology Department at Centro Hospitalar de Gaia and Professor Catedrático convidado at Faculty of Medicine University of Porto, Portugal. In his everyday clinical practice he is mostly involved in cardiac imaging, especially in advanced echocardiography, and clinical cardiology. He has also been involved in both basic and clinical research and in several major clinical trials. In 2015 he finished his PhD, studying subclinical diastolic dysfunction and its progression to heart failure. For this research he has received 18 national and international awards and has authored > 160 publications in several peer-review journals. His current research interests include cardiovascular prevention, echocardiography, HF and diastolic dysfunction. At the European Society Cardiology (ESC), he was the founder of the ESC Cardiologists of Tomorrow and worked as member of the Board of the ESC Education Committee. He was responsible, among other projects, for the creation of the ESC webinars in general Cardiology. In 2018, he concluded a MsC in Health Economics and Management at the London School of Economics (LSE). At a national level he is member of the Board of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology, Board of Colégio Especialidade de Cardiologia da Ordem Médicos and member of the Editorial Board of Revista Portuguesa de Cardiologia During the last years he has been an active contributor in several national and international continuing medical education programs. He has been abstract grader, presenter and session chair in several international cardiovascular meetings such as ESC congress, EuroEcho Imaging, Heart Failure and national Cardiology congresses (Portugal, France, Italy, Russia, Sri Lanka, Angola and many others). He is Associate Editor of JACC Case Reports and member of the Editorial Board of several scientific journals. He is Governor of the American College Cardiology, Portugal Chapter In 2017 he was distinguished as Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and of Fellow of the American College Cardiology (FACC).
