  Rees Verleur is a I was born and raised in rural northern California and from a young age would help my father (an electrical engineer) with his work. Perhaps due to this exposure, I was always drawn to the STEM subjects at school and so when it came time for me to select a major, engineering seemed like the obvious choice. I am currently attending Purdue University in West Lafayette for a PhD in mechanical engineering after receiving my bachelors degree from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. I have gained some work experience in the Aerospace field through two internships at Aerojet Rocketdyne. During my first internship I was modeling parts and managing drawings for solid fueled systems while working in Huntsville Alabama. During my second internship I was doing fluid flow and thermodynamic analysis on three different liquid fueled programs. One of these programs was the RS-25 engine which is powering the Artemis moon missions and after the first mission scrub I was tasked with helping to analyze the data to determine the cause. While at Cal Poly I have been lucky to have exposure to several clubs and groups. I especially enjoyed my time in the Cal Poly Racing club on the aerodynamics subsystem of their formula team. While in this club I fabricated metallic and composite parts for the aerodynamics kit and performed structural analysis for the mounting geometry. I was also excited to join the additive manufacturing research group headed by professor Xuan Wang. While in this group I learned to operate a selective laser melting machine as well as helped with research into printing thin walled structures for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. While at my second internship for Aerojet, I was contacted by some fellow Cal Poly students who were attempting to start a club to build a liquid bi-propellant rocket engine. During my final year at Cal Poly I helped this club design and manufacture a rocket engine in under a year.
