This role allows me daily opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of students, staff, parents, and the community. Providing a safe and secure learning environment for staff and students and supporting students in developing resilience building skills, learning how to demonstrate excellence in everything they do, and to building self-awareness and self-regulation are aspects of my job I deeply love. As principal, school improvement is also a continuing goal. It is my privilege to support and lead our schools through the KESA Accreditation process. We are highly focused on our building and district goals and are making significant progress toward achieving each of them. I lead efforts related to curriculum, assessment, and professional development. Curriculum adoption, trauma-informed work, state assessments, ACT/Workkeys, KELPA, and KESA are specific areas of focus. I facilitate various district teams including: District MTSS Team, District Leadership Team, District and Building SITE Councils, Early Childhood Advisory Council, and the Professional Development Council. Throughout my career, I have participated in many great professional learning experiences. I attended the initial and advanced sessions of the Bold Moves Curriculum Mapping Boot Camp under the direction of Dr. Marie Alcock and Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs. This powerful experience helped hone my craft in the areas of curriculum development, mapping and unit planning. Another high impact learning experience occurred through our district's strategic planning process. As a result of this collaborative effort, our district developed mission and vision statements that inspire our efforts. In addition, the three comprehensive district goals developed provide a solid foundation and drive the work of our system. I also served on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Sedgwick County Special Education Cooperative. The collaborative efforts achieved on this committee encompassed nine school districts, and I am proud of the improvement efforts identified through the process. Other significant learning opportunities include: McREL Leadership training, MTSS, Adaptive Schools, Cognitive Coaching, and Energy Leadership.
