  Rashad Lyston is a Since 2006, I have dedicated my character to Criminal Justice and Public Safety. Graduating in 2015 from John Jay College with a B.S in Criminal Justice and Minors in Police Administration and Conflict Resolution. In 2014, I became certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and worked for numerous agencies such as Northwell Health, Jamaica Hospital, Maimonidies Medical Center EMS and the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY). My passion for Emergency Medicine and EMS Operations still draws me to continue my education in that field with endeavors to become certified as a NYC Paramedic. In 2016, I was appointed as a Correction Officer with the New York City Department of Correction (NYCD) and have added to the Department's mission objective of Care, Custody and Control. During my tenure I have excelled at many opportunities, having started my career at GMDC working with the 18-21 Year Old males. In 2018, I was transferred briefly to AMKC and later to Horizon Juvenile Detention Center apart of the "Raise the Age" Law which removed 16-17 year old males from NYCD Custody. Currently, I serve my Department in many critical roles, Currently I am assigned to the Transportation Division which the primary function is producing individuals for Court daily in a timely and safe manor and receiving new admission individuals into our custody, safely transporting them to our numerous facilities on Rikers Island. In March 2022, I also furthered my career by successfully becoming a member of the Strategic Response Team. The team, trained by the Department's elite Emergency Services Unit, underwent 2 weeks of scenario based training to head into the facilities equipped with knowledge and experience. The unit's mission and goal is to support and increase staff safety via improving response times to incidents, providing a presence in problematic areas to prevent violence and to enhance security via utilizing real time intelligence. This precise and strategic work of the unit will focus to create a safer environment in the facilities among individuals in custody and the recovery of weapons and contraband. My endeavors are to continue to serve the public and use my skills and experience to add to my agency's critical mission goals. My passions are Emergency Medicine, Military/Law Enforcement and Youth Mentoring for which I continue to build upon each of those fields with gained experience, opportunities and training. My character stands confidently on the pillars of Integrity, Professionalism and Service.
