I am currently employed by the Office of Sixty by 30 in the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential as a data analyst. In that role, I am responsible for the data required to administer and evaluate Michigan’s flagship free community college programs (Michigan Reconnect and Futures for Frontliners) as well as three programs focused on training students to enter the workforce with a credential of value (an ADN-to-BSN pathway for nursing graduates at community colleges to seamlessly earn their bachelor’s degree at a four-year institution, plus two short-term training programs for both recent high school graduates and adults aged 21 and older to earn a sub-degree career credential). I oversee data collection efforts for use in legislatively mandated reporting, and I design studies to assess the efficacy of Sixty by 30 programs and track progress towards Governor Whitmer’s postsecondary achievement goal: by 2030, we strive for 60% of Michigan adults to have earned a postsecondary credential (degree, certificate, and/or non-degree certification). Over the coming year, I hope to conduct larger research on the Michigan community college landscape, the efficacy of free community college programs, and the ways that colleges can prioritize high-yield strategies to promote student success with limited resources. I earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in 2016 and 2021 respectively. Prior to attending Syracuse, I earned a B.A. in political science and women’s and gender studies from Marquette University in 2014.
