When I began teaching 18 years ago, I was focused on giving children the gift of music, and finding ways to creatively engage them into the subject area. I've spent time in the classroom as well as time working with teachers from Independent schools creating interactive textbooks for their subject areas. Now I have shifted my focus to working with children facing challenges; whether it be challenging circumstances, or presenting with behaviours adults find challenging. This is done through educational consultancy, early intervention programs I facilitate at Windermere Child & Family Services, as well as through my private yoga teaching. In my yoga practice, I have found that just like with adults, yoga is recognised as giving children skills in noticing and expressing their emotions (rather than having no tolerance and going straight to throwing tantrums). This is done by connecting them to internal things they can control, such as their breath and the movement of their bodies. Most recently, I have completed my Certification as a facilitator of Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY-F), an evidence-based, body therapy for PTSD and Complex PTSD. Avid supporter of www.livesinthebalance.org and Dr Ross Greene's work on Collaborative & Proactive Solutions.
