Rachael Tarlinton Email & Phone Number | My work is focused on viruses that affect veterinary species. We are currently working on screening wildlife in the UK and India for SARs-like coronaviruses. I have an active research programme on zoonotic and emerging viruses including viruses of rodents (hantaviruses, coronaviruses), orthobunyaviruses (Schmallenberg Virus), tick borne diseases of dogs. I also work on retroviruses in a lot of species, currently including koalas (KoRV) and sheep (Maedi Visna). I'm particularly interested in endogenous retroviruses, the ones that have become integrated into their hosts genomes, and how these interact with their infectious versions and the effects these have on their hosts evolution. I am European Diplomate of Veterinary Microbiology (European specialist college). I'm also biosafety officer for the vet school (risk assessment of research and clinical work) overseeing our CL2 and CL3 labs, sit on the virology division of the microbiology society and teach undergraduate and post graduate veterinary students in a range of subjects.
