  Proscovia Svard is a My Ph D research journey started in May 2009 and ended in May, 2014. It has facilitated an understanding of the broadness of information management. The research has focused on the differences and similiarities between Enteprise Content Management (ECM) and Records Management (RM) and the impact information Culture has on the management of public information. I have come to a conclusion that the two approaches that is, ECM and RM could be harmonized in order to achieve effective information management amidst e-government development. It further supports the conclusions that have been drawn by information culture scholars that the "people issues" should be taken seriously and ought to be central to the solutions that organizations embrace in an endeavour to deal with their information management challenges. Information systems as tools that facilitate the management of information need to be operated by people with a good understanding of information/records management challenges. We are all information creators but this is not often followed by an understanding of what happens to the information we create if it is not maintained. Currently, a lot of emphasis is being put on the re-use of government information both at the European and national levels through the Public Sector Information Directive. This will require strong information management regimes. The research has further given me a firm foundation to argue for a better information management infrastructure when it comes to the documentation processes of truth commissions. This would promote the dissemination of the TRC findings for peace building purposes, use - to uproot impunity and preservation of their findings for posterity. This documentation is meant to promote reconciliation, create an understanding of the causes of the war and to prevent regression to conflict in post-conflict countries. To enhance good governance and transparency societies need strong information management infrastructures.
