I began my life with many obstacles and challenges and was very unclear of my true worth, which lead to many poor choices along my journey of life. I started my life much like any fine diamond does, buried deep in a dark place. My mother was addicted to drugs and my biological father was not part of my life. As the eldest of four, I began early assuming the responsibility of caring for my sister and two brothers. I managed the household, prepared meals, and made sure that my siblings made it to school each day. They depended on me for care and comfort when sick and relied on me as though I were their mother. I was a true Diamond in the Rough however through guidance and prayer I became to realize I was a precious gem placed on earth to help others. It took a great deal of cutting, polishing, and smoothing to transform me into a viable jewel! “Before a diamond shows it brilliancy and prismatic colors it has to stand a good deal of cutting and smoothing.” - Author Unknown Now as an adult, I am delighted to be part of Society of California Care Operators (SOCCO), a prestigious care providing organization; placed in the position of presidency, by the grace of God to “provide exemplary physical, emotional, and spiritual care for each of our consumers and give them the opportunity to reach their highest potential and to become self-supporting in a community atmosphere.”
