My track record in project management & leadership for renewable energy, housing, health & education sectors extends from protected species & INNS surveys including plants, birds, bats, squirrel, badger, otter, water vole, amphibians and invertebrates; to EIA, EcIAs, PEAs, planning applications, protected species licensing, post-consent advice to discharge conditions, Bird Hazard Management Plans & Habitat Management Plans, ECoWs, construction mitigation & monitoring. I've contributed to 50+ EIA studies of onshore wind farms, many of which are operational. From 2004 to 2019, I programme-managed a survey, EIA & monitoring study of the effects of Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm on birds & mammals, and worked on 18 other OWF projects from the very start of UK offshore wind. For Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) I wrote and published an authoritative evidence review of the effects of wind farms on birds. I have surveyed birds throughout Scotland and England for government, BTO and RSPB, and helped pioneer NatureScot/SNH's guidance on habitat impact assessment while leading NVC surveys on 13 estates in the Cairngorm mountains. Previously for the NCC I created and managed a biodiversity database for monitoring climate change impacts on 12 Biosphere Reserves., I've researched sustainability indicators for Scotland’s economy, calculated its first Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare, written sustainable development guidance for UK government, and advised 3 councils on their sustainability & environmental policies. Before this I worked for 5 years at Edinburgh Zoo, publishing a studbook and papers on captive breeding & reintroduction to Tunisia of extinct scimitar-horned oryx antelope
