Patrick Nolan Email & Phone Number | Recently I was asked about my career and history in Rugby, and how it shaped the man I am today. This conversation got me thinking…perhaps the things I learned along the way might inspire others to consider how sport can be a way to learning some of the key lessons you need in life – and work – in order to succeed? So I decided to share this conversation – and my thoughts – here in the hopes it might inspire and motivate others. How did you start? Living in Australia rugby was a way of life. I grew up living opposite a well known Sydney Rugby Club. These were exciting days for Australian rugby, winter afternoons were spent watching our heroes playing and then sliding around in the mud on the club rugby pitch with my Dad - I was hooked. At my school, Scot’s College, Rugby was taught very differently from the UK. It was serious, no tag rugby for us - our first match aged 6 our coaches stood behind us to make sure we didn’t run away!! What did playing rugby do for you - how did it help you personally in life. Rugby instilled respect, independence and purpose in my life. How it shaped your thinking. Rugby gave me a can do attitude. Learning the art of being a good loser as well as winning is a big step in life. What playing sport at your school did for you. Sport exposes children to strong role models - my sport coaches drilled core values in life into us. Sport teaches children how to be part of a team - learning to make a sacrifice for the best of the team is a great skill for life. Sport provides children with the exercise they need to be healthy. I loved the feelings after a sport session, I always felt happy and energised. How do you inspire people Encouragement combined with motivation, helping them believe that they can achieve the best possible result, remind them after the game of the successes they had during play.
