Patrick Nguyen is a Patrick Nguyen has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2016 and has worked as a Counselor at Houston Community College since 2009; he has been in higher education student services since 2000 in counseling, advising, recruitment, student life, student retention, & college technology. He received both his Master’s in Counseling and Bachelor’s in Computer Science at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has been a Learning Communities Student Services Advisor and helped implement Learning Communities which was part of a 5 year study of effectiveness by the non-profit research firm MDRC. He has been the project manager in implementing an integrated Welcome Center, hosted 1st year student summer institutes, and implement an automated telephone dialer & a departmental customer relationship management database. Patrick has been a staff adviser for several student organizations including Student Government, Campus Activities Board, Christian Student Organization, and International Student's Organization. As an adviser, the Student Governments have represented students in district and state-wide level meetings. He was a member of the HCC National Science Foundation-Science Technology Engineering & Math Committee which has awarded up to 1,200,000 in scholarships. Patrick was on overseas assignment with HCC for 4 years to help the government of Qatar open their first community college (Community College of Qatar-CCQ). He helped train & transition the CCQ student services department from HCC management to local management. He helped write policy & standard operating procedures, while developing & training Qatari counselors and advisers. He has helped implement a Faculty Consultation Model to more immediately determine at-risk students and continues to work on improving mental health outreach to college students.
