My research interests are cancer immunology, infectious diseases, microbial pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance. My current research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of Clostridium difficile pathogenesis with a special interest on the role of cyclic diguanylate monophosphate (c-di-GMP) in C. difficile physiology and virulence. Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is one of the leading causes of hospital-acquired diarrhea and life threatening conditions such as pseudomembranous colitis and toxic megacolon. Individuals with weakened immune system, such as people with HIV/AIDS, cancer, or organ transplant patients taking immunosuppressive drugs, and patients requiring constant treatment with antibiotics are at more risk of C. difficile infections.
