During his 7 years with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Obby was a three-time recipient of the Cal Murphy Heart of a Legend Award, an honour awarded to the player who best demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship and dedication to the CFL and local community on and off the field. Time and time again, Obby has proven his dedication to Manitoba, having made it his home after his CFL retirement, and carving out a name in the entrepreneurial scene, while remaining dedicated to his community work. On January 30, 2023, Obby was appointed Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage, and the Minister responsible for the Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation, as well as Travel Manitoba. He is the first Muslim Canadian Minister and MLA in the history of the province. He is excited to continue serving the community in these various capacities while building on the many relationships he has developed over the years.
