Nicolas Braun is a Nico joined Zalando in 2009 as Senior Engineer. Holding several leadership positions over the last 14 years, he influenced Zalando’s Tech transformation through all eras of the company’s evolution. As Lead of the core Platform Engineering teams, he helped transitioning Zalando’s IT landscape into the AWS cloud. For the last 6 years, he was a main contributor to Zalando’s IT Compliance & Security function. His teams streamlined software automation around information security and compliance for the 250+ engineering teams. Having completed different multi-year projects on Zalando Group level as Head of Identity & Access Management (e.g., Customer & Corporate SSO/MFA), he decided to embrace a new technical adventure and joined the Traffic Platform unit as Head of Customer Communication Engineering. Before joining Zalando, he was researching on Java-based AI systems for Sun Microsystems in California. He has been awarded with several Internet and Innovation awards, amongst them the - eminently respectable - Germany’s “Convergators Award” in 2008. Since February 2019, he is also member of the iX Reader Advisory Board of Heise Medien GmbH. Nico’s passion is building, transforming, and leading medium to large scale business units. His main areas of interest focus on Software Architecture Design, Software Development, and Offensive Security.
