Nicola Adolphe Email & Phone Number | I am the Founder of The Autonomy Hotline, a support service for parents and patients who find state 'systems' difficult to navigate. We have a central hotline - a phone number that anyone faced with a difficult situation in health or social care - can phone up and talk to someone. A real person. Not a robot. No numbers to press to get through to umpteen different departments. (We try our best to answer every call, but we do have a voicemail... That is the limit of our use of automatic technology) We take calls on every issue that involves a violation of autonomy, e.g. difficuties in accessing care, poor medical treatment, child protection proceedings, medical negligence, mental health etc. I completed a Bioethics MA programme at St Mary's University in 2020. I explored medical interactions in family law for my dissertation and interviewed 25 parents on their expereinces of court proceedings. Some of the stories were heartbreaking, and I wanted to do something to help. Combined with the COVID situation, and ever increasing government overreach into family life, 'The Autonomy Hotline' was born... I am interested in researching issues of health care and law, particularly issues around parents, children, patient-professional dynamics, natural health, health inequalities, infectious disease ethics and the use of technology. Prior to the MA, I was a breastfeeding counsellor for a few years and worked with new mothers helping and supporting their desire to breastfeed successfully. I enjoyed researching issues in maternity care, child health, infant feeding and feminism. Working with new mothers helped underscore the ethical questions that shaped my journey into bioethics. Before motherhood took me on this lifelong detour in ethics, I worked in the sport and leisure industry. I am still passionate about healthy lifestyles and children's activities. I was a trained figure-skater, reaching NISA silver standard. I continue to skate when life grants me time, and I also do roller-blading, cycling, running, skipping and circus skills. I spent 12 years in children's softplay and leisure. I set up my own business 'The Live Wires Concept', running workshops, training, coaching, clubs, and writing training programmes. I feel that everyone's chances of being healthier are improved when they have access to sport and fitness, outdoor activities, social networks and positive role models. I had always envisioned managing facilities where this could be achievable
