I am a Linux/Unix specialist with a lot of experience building, customising, automating and integrating physical and virtual servers in many environments. As a result I have had dealings in many associated areas, such as: provisioning virtual machines, both from scratch and from templates; creating "clean" templates with no historical or host-specific information before using them as base-builds when deploying multiple VMs; hardening operating systems; deploying HP Blade servers and configuring for SAN boot; provisioning, allocating and zoning SAN storage from EMC, Hitachi and NetApp arrays; working with application and database teams to implement prerequisite operating system configurations and to fault-find any issues. I have also been working with Oracle VM Server for x86 on some recent contracts, it being seen as a lower-cost alternative to VMware, as a result I have had exposure to Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control as the mechanism for overall management of OVM and as a way of providing a user interface for cloud deployments. I have a lot of experience working in secure sites and am very familiar with the behaviour and confidentiality required in these positions. My preferred locations are: remote, on-site if within less than 1 hour commute from my home in Bristol, or hybrid with majority being remote. I am always willing to learn, to take on new skills and practices, and to share with others, I am open to suggestions and take criticism in a positive light.
