Nicholas Sironka Email & Phone Number | I am Nicholas Sironka, a self taught Maasai visual artist born and raised in Kenya. I enjoy teaching the medium of Batik, which is art created with the use of hot wax and cold water fabric dye. As a child, I always enjoyed drawing and painting with supportive parents who encouraged my artistic talents by buying art coloring and drawing books. I began my art career working as a freelance artist in Kenya where I was born and raised. Today i live and work as an addiction counselor in Spokane Washington, in the United States! Art opened the door to many possibilities for me, and God continues to guide my every step of the way! In 1993 I was hired by the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) to teach refugee children from Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan how to portray their past traumatic experiences using art. I worked in three camps, Liboi, Dagahaley and Daadab. In 2000-2001, I was awarded the prestigious Fullbright Scholar –In-Re-sidence Award by the US Government, to come teach Batik art and Maasai Culture at Whitworth college ( now University) in Spokane, Washington. I’m currently an SUDPT and working as an addiction counselor at Partners with Families and Children, here in Spokane Washington. Im working to complete my “T” hours experience and just about to earn my SUDP status! By God’s grace in a few weeks i can celebrate this milestone in my life and career! I actually started treading into the world as an art therapist again, and with my degree in addiction counseling I can now delve deeper into this area of therapy and hopefully help many redirect their lives again!
