I am passionate about doing outreach, and empowering women in STEM. My long term goal is to pursue a career in Science Policy. Therefore, I am looking for positions that offer the opportunity to expand my skills beyond the lab to help me reach that goal or other research areas in Materials Engineering. As a graduate student my research was focused on the degradation of high performance fibers used in body armors. This research involves developing methods of accelerated degradation, mechanical testing and the use Positron Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS) to monitor changes in the nanostructure of polymeric materials. Through the years as a researcher I have mainly worked on the characterization of polymers, using techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermogravimetrical analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tensile testing, among others. As a graduate student at Purdue University I have been part of the leadership team of the Graduate Women in Engineering Network (GWEN), which is part of the Women in Engineering Program (WIEP). The latter is USA's first women in Engineering program and has been working for 50 years to motivate and support women through their careers in Engineering. Currently, I am the president of the Materials Science and Engineering Graduate Student Associations (MSEGSA).
