Ned Silber Email & Phone Number | While working as a police officer, I was placed in a number of special assignments. These ranged from patrol (majority of my years) to walking a beat and all in between. Two years were spent in a special plain clothes unit in which we assisted investigations, tracked and apprehended wanted subjects, and worked special assignments. During this time we did have an undercover agent working in the department with whom we worked. Four years were spent as a detective investigating crimes involving children. I attended a number of short, but intensive training opportunities, involving sex crime investigations, interviewing children and adults, general juvenile delinquency, and the like. Our department began training a group of officers in Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). I was part of this initial program and was trained by FBI and US ARMY Special Operations units. I was part of this unit for about five years both as patrol officer and investigator. I was lead investigator in a number of higher profile cases including a homicide of a child involving another ethnicity. Many of the people interviewed in this investigation did not speak English. An interpreter was necessary and the investigation required patience, planning, teamwork, and multi-agency work. Much of my work as investigator necessitated work with other law enforcement agencies, other human service departments, and multiple District Attorneys. Proper communication was necessary with all jurisdictions and those involved.
