  Mishka Char is a Napoleon Bonaparte once said: “There is no such thing as an accident; it’s fate misnamed.” According to Napoleon my love of Human Resources was not an accident, but fate. I stumbled upon the Human Resources field while studying at Southern New Hampshire University. I needed to take some electives and decided to take my grandfather’s advice and take business related classes. I chose Human Resources classes because they piqued my interest and I fell instantly in love with it. I took a few Human Resources classes where I learned compensation strategies, working with labor unions, labor laws, leadership and communication. In addition to my degree, I earned my certification in Human Resources Management. I have learned most of my Human Resources skills through my five years of valuable experience in the Human Resources industry. I am a jack of all trades type within in the Human Resources industry due to having worked with two companies who are relatively small. The first company I worked for; the Betty K Marler Center in Colorado had sixty employees. The Boston Public Library, my former position currently has approximately 400 employees. During my time in the Human Resources industry, I have screened applicants, assisted with onboarding, background checks, interviews, benefits, FMLA, workers compensation, ADA, data tracking, job posting coordinating, updating company web pages, maintaining personnel files and processing payroll. I enjoy all aspects of the Human Resources industry however, my favorite aspect is recruiting, compensation, onboarding, screening applicants and assisting employees with getting oriented with the company. I love being a resource to employees and someone they can come to for questions which may arise during their time with the company. I have forged many great relationships with colleagues through being part of the onboarding process. I have always considered the Human Resources department the first ally a person has in a company. What I enjoy most is the ability to use my skill set and knowledge to help people. What started as accidentally stumbling upon the Human Resources field has turned into a career.
