A board-certified physician, also board-certified in clinical informatics, I combine my dual expertise in medicine and digital transformation to improve health outcomes, modernize the clinician and patient experience, and minimize costs. ► CAREER SYNOPSIS At the University of Virginia, I’m the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for UVA Health, the UVA Physician Group, and the UVA School of Medicine. I’ve been modernizing care at UVA since 2014, driving the clinical informatics innovation agenda, organization, project pipeline, physician communications, and user training. My passion also extends to multiple, exciting collaborative initiatives in the health informatics space, such as with Epic Systems, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), and the American Medical Informatics Association. Earlier in my career, I established and led clinical informatics departments at Northwell Health and the Medical Center of Central Georgia. My contributions within large health systems and for the healthcare industry at large include more efficient care coordination, expanded telehealth, fewer marginal referrals, improved access to specialists, open access to scholarly articles for physicians, and digital decision support for thousands of diseases. My decades of experience in medicine range from clinical and technology research to practicing as a pediatrician and serving as an associate professor at prominent medical schools. ► HOW I DRIVE SYSTEM ADOPTION As a practicing physician and end-user of the systems I implement, I understand the challenges involved in delivering clinical care excellence and the needs of practitioners and other support personnel.
