To care means that the children feel safe and comfortable in school, that the school ethos is one of calm and empathy, and that all involved with the school feel valued. The challenge aspect goes much further than simply being academic. As a conscientious leader I believe in holistic education, challenging ideas and beliefs as well as developing a sense of awe and wonder through new experiences. Expanding the comfort zones of both children and staff to further develop in self-confidence and lessen irrational fears that stand in the way of development and progression. Inspiration is the key to outstanding education. I’ve seen many ‘good’ lessons taught where the teachers are technically very competent but have lacked that spark and flair which would have made the lesson outstanding. I am dedicated to creating exceptional learning opportunities where teachers are passionate about their art and children are inspired to learn and develop. I encourage provision where opportunities are provided for children to experience, develop and value new skills and express talents other than the academic alone. In a recent visit by Sir John Jones he stated that “they will be smart enough if I am good enough” and this encapsulates my approach to teaching. The children have one chance to learn and get it right, so I have one chance to make it happen. “it is the firm but fare command of the class, coupled with the creative motivational tools and enthusiasm in which Michael Jordan teaches that has made this year such a success, not only for (name) but for the entire class. I hope that Tanglin appreciates and recognises that Michael Jordan is one of those teachers that leaves a lasting impression on a child's life.”
