Michael Ellis Odfaacap is a I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist. I treat all disorders within my field, but I especially have expertise in treating Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have 3 children and my oldest child (daughter) has ASD, giving me a unique perspective and understanding of ASD. I have written a book with Oxford University Press called Caring for Autism: Practical Advice from a Parent and Physician. See the link in my profile. This book is written for parents of children with ASD, but is also valuable for professionals. It discusses a wide range of issues that parents need to know regarding diagnosis, etiology, and treatment (medications, alternative treatments, and therapies). It also discusses the educational system, legal issues, the effect of ASD on the whole family, and religion and spirituality. I am also an advocate for ASD and children's mental health. I am the President of the Georgia Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and serve also as an advocacy liaison for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I am passionate about helping children with ASD and their families. I am also actively engaged in academics and serve as Clinical Associate Professor both for Mercer University School of Medicine and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am the Clerkship director for Mercer University School of Medicine Psychiatry Department, Columbus campus. I was on the Lifelong Learning Committee for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for 15 years.
