  Michael Clemitson is a Well, I've just had my fourth retirement party - so, here I am, RETIRED. At last. And, what now? Full and final retirement requires a fundamental change in one's attitude. Gone are the constraints of time targets, the need to conform to someone else's strategies and the espousal of uncomfortable opinions. Now there is time to read, to learn and to explore the nature of mankind's tenure of the earth. From childhood I've been fascinated by the irrational behavior of hom sap. Why do "intelligent" people do things that, from the outset, they know will only harm them? Why do we fight for liberty and win only more regulation and accept less liberty than we had before? How have we arrived in a world where gross consumerism drives economies and prudent saving is punishable? Now I'm on a new journey, fired up by the ancient and more recent philosophers, with some wonderful lighthouses nearer home, such as Hayek, Jordan Peterson and Douglas Murray, all true libertarians. Of course, I find that these perplexing behaviors are not new: Arthur Schopehauer's doctoral dissertation "The Principal of Sufficient Reason" in 1813 raised this paradox and he spent his entire life on a detailed but particularly melancholic search for answers. His writings influenced many who followed, including Nietzsche and Freud, the First Team of recent philosophical debate, you might say. I really hope my own musings will be considerably more optimistic!
