Michael Castellan Email & Phone Number | Ever since I can remember, I have been driven by a passion for solving problems, whether they are political, philosophical, economic, or technical. Because of my natural ability in science and math and because of my love for creating and building things, I chose to study mechanical engineering. As a recent graduate, I am eager to apply both my talents and passions to my work as a Junior Engineer with Thor Solutions in Arlington, Virginia. Over the past couple summers, I have completed two engineering internships. The first was for Whiting-Turner working with members of the team of project engineers, project managers, and superintendents on the jobsite to discover and solve issues with the construction of the project. In the second, I worked for Aurora Flight Sciences as an aero-structures engineering intern on their VTOL LightingStrike aircraft project. My primary duties included adding detail to, performing updates on, and resolving conflicts within the CAD models of the aircraft’s composite structure. I have also explored the world of engineering through several undergraduate design projects. For my 4th year capstone design project, I worked on the Power, Thermal, and Environment team to design a CubeSat for the Virginia CubeSat Constellation. As part of an “Introduction to Automatic Controls” class, my partner and I designed and built a propeller-actuated lever arm system which would rotate to a specified angle with the aid of a microcontroller. I also worked with a group to design, analyze, and build an electric guitar for an “Advanced Mechatronics” class using CAD and CNC milling.
