  Mia Huang is a The greatest compliment I’ve received, when I felt truly seen, was from a professor who sent this quote that reminded him of me: “An entrepreneur tends to bite off a little more than he can chew, hoping he’ll quickly learn how to chew it.” My passionate hunger has made me an EXCELLENT chewer. It didn’t come naturally to me, it was a necessity. At 17, I had to drop out of high school to start providing for myself. I was a couch-surfing emancipated minor who hustled night and day. I was chasing minimum wage jobs, saving, and counting the days until I turned 18 when an opportunity came to me. My friends wanted to open a business but weren’t sure where to start. After an all-nighter of research and crunching numbers, I presented them with a business plan and every penny to my name the next day. At 17 I sold them on the idea that this girl could run their business. And I did. In two years, my fervent daily chewing, searching for answers and soaking up every ounce of knowledge and advice I could get my hands on had resulted in a business that cultivated enough of a market share to attract a buyout from an international firm. So I did it again. I sat to chewing and was able to pump up the competition and broker another buyout. At this time, I'd positioned myself to take time to go back to school. This was perhaps the biggest bite I took. Prioritizing while working multiple jobs, full-time classes, and single parenthood left me with a jaw of steel. That meant I could chew more, right? Wanting to grow as a leader, I joined the PTK Honors Society and quickly rose to an executive board member. This forced me to take a giant bite out of something untasted – humble pie. The things that made me a successful owner didn’t translate well to teamwork. I had to take a step back, become self-aware, identify weaknesses, and make an action plan to change. It was an invaluable experience that molded me into who I am today. I then noticed trends in FL development and took a bite out of commercial real estate. I loved bridging my soft skills with analytical research. I was thrown into a world of investors, pitching ideas, and valuations of businesses. Piqued, my insatiable appetite led me to pursue my BSBA in Finance, and I'm preparing as a CFA Level 1 candidate. I thrive in this high-paced environment. I’m strengthening my skill set of bringing data, design, and intuition to create a deep understanding, while helping others develop as leaders.
