When I make my bed in the morning, I’ve already accomplished something and that feeling resonates into other projects. This is something my time in the Navy helped me to understand my stepdad’s stern views on taking your time on everything until you master it. The Navy started my career path in education and coaching by becoming an Aviation Training Petty Officer for my ship. I found a talent I was unaware that I had, I could motivate, coach, train and lead others to better themselves professionally and personally. I had to track and report all data for personnel training records. Being creative and helping those with learning difficulties opened another passion of wanting everyone to have a way of having everything broken down for them step by step visually, in writing and Auditorily to better their odds of understanding and advancements of ratings. After my time was up, I went to work at Texas Forest Service where I got to further my craft in being an educator for both state and federal wildfire academies. I served on the Lone Star Emergency Management Team where I served both clerical and field work during natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina and Rita and fought many wildfires across this nation operating a dozer. That’s right, heavy equipment doesn’t scare me, in fact I find it exciting!! I enjoyed the role and responsibilities of being a Fire Boss on smaller fires of usually less than 600 acres, I preferred being on the dozer putting a line around the fire vs being in charge. After leaving TFS, I began my journey in retail by taking a General Manager position with a small town store and after I grew in my knowledge, I took a position with Loves where I worked diligently to create a training manual for all levels of the store including GM, giving them exact “How To” instructions for each duty, operations performed on computer/ registers, troubleshooting and technical codes to utilize before having to reach out to an 800 number for help and then a test after completing the manual. As a GM & being a business owner for 7 yrs, I’ve spent spent the past 15 yrs doing accounts AP/AR, invoicing, 1099s, audits, vendor payments, general ledger, balance sheets, tax prep, tangibles, income taxes, payroll, budgeting, financial statements, etc…
