The outcome was a bold decision to recapitalize by selling 20 hotels in a single portfolio jointly owned by Newcrest Management and their partners at Image Hospitality. The sale prompted discussions of the future of the partnership, and in 2012, the companies merged to form NewcrestImage. From 2013 to 2014, Mehul served as the youngest chairperson of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA). He is often invited to share his story and expertise with industry peers at both public and private engagements. He is a 2015 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist and received his undergraduate degree in computer information systems from the University of Texas at Arlington.
