Here, I developed an immunofluorescence assay to study the viral kinetics of dengue virus (DENV) using monoclonal antibodies. I helped to develop, optimise, validate and automate the fluorescent focus assay (FFA) as part of the Infectious Disease and Vaccine team who then implemented my assay into current antiviral research. I wrote a short thesis on my research at Janssen which was graded as ‘excellent’ by my placement tutor. I undertook a laboratory based research project in my final year at the University of Leeds working alongside Dr. Helen Berry from the School of Mechanical Engineering, where I took part in a project based around porcine decellularised biological scaffolds (DBSs), medical devices designed to replace faulty heart valves. I improved two current cytotoxicity protocols (indirect contact and extract assays) in-line with ISO standards for use with the DBSs, strengthening my cell culture techniques and gaining invaluable insights into medical devices and engineering. I achieved an overall grade of 78 in my research project, including my 19-page dissertation. Proficient in many IT programmes, such as SPSS Statistics, Origin, GraphPad 7 and LabChart.
