Meg Omahony Email & Phone Number | Facilitated learning for multiple learner audiences over 3 decades (youth in grades 7-12, pre- and in-service teachers) in Science and Biology by applying relevant learning theories and utilizing a constantly growing toolbox of teaching/learning strategies to meet each learners’ needs. Extra-curricular involvement (coaching, Blood Donor Clinics, Best Buddies, Envirothon, Biotech Competitions) always ran parallel to classroom learning as a way to recognize and enhance social learning and community/environmental awareness as well as to build positive relationships with students. Active leadership in professional associations (STAO, NABT, GLACIE – see below) along with facilitating sessions at conferences and for GTA school boards’ P. D. days led to instruction of Honours Specialist AQ courses (Science, Biology) and pre-service Biology for OISE/UT. Collaborated with the Jane Goodall Institute (Canada, Uganda) in preparing and delivering integrated Environmental Education sessions targeted to grade 5, 6 and 7 teachers near Uganda’s National Forests. The working relationship developed with Dr. Jim Slotta (UC Berkeley) during Eureka! Fellowship was enhanced with his appointment as Canada Research Chair of Education and Technology (OISE) in 2005; three of his PhD students completed their doctoral research working with me and my students. This collaboration spurred my professional exploration into the used of educational technology and concept mapping to promote deep learning. Co-design partnerships with other teachers in the school have grown from this. Utilizing a Flipped Classroom approach for my 12U Biology students, effective and regular formative assessment teamed with Learning Management Systems (Edmodo, Sophia) allowed my classroom career to finish on a high.
