Mauricio Romero Email & Phone Number | The greatest experience I had helping around my community would be when I was volunteering at Impact soccer. It was a program to teach kids of all ages how to play soccer. I was very passionate about this opportunity because of their mission statement. They wanted to provide an affordable soccer program to kids who couldn't afford to pay for top tier programs across Maryland and DC. This relieved the stress of parents because not only would we teach the kids how to play soccer but we were also like a day care. During the academic year we would train these kids right after school and this gave time and peace of mind to parents who couldn't make it on time to pick up their kids or were afraid of letting these kids be home alone for 1-2 hours. Not only was it great financially but it worked greatly for both kids and the parents. Most of the kids were Hispanic and I was happy I was able to provide a great service to these kids who really needed it, I saw myself in them because my parents were not able to afford a soccer program for me. So I could definitely relate. The bond I had with these kids is something I will also never forget. A lot of them saw me as an older brother and they all felt like they could really trust me. I have even kept in touch with some of the now grown kids who are now finishing up high school or are applying to colleges. They tell me how that time in their life is a lifelong memory that they would never forget. Another experience I am proud of is getting into the medical field. I am a first generation college student and the first person in my family to pursue a college degree. My parents have sacrificed a lot for me and being able to get into the medical field was a proud moment for them. I have learned a lot while being in the medical field and have unforgettable memories and learning moments.
