Matthew Speight is a Data Scientist, Quantitative Researcher, and Computational Biologist. I spend my time trying to use sophisticated techniques to solve complicated problems. Mostly in R and Python. Always with a cup of tea. Originally fascinated by the most complex machinery in the universe - living organisms - pursuing a BSc, MRes, then PhD in the life sciences, and specialising in comparative genomics, cancer modelling, and evolutionary strategies, I've since turned to apply my statistical and computational skills across a myriad of diverse sectors. Whether it's developing ML-assisted pipelines to generate alpha for reliable returns in futures markets, or understanding the mechanisms underlying cancer genome evolution, or discovering and algorithmically correcting for bias in clinical data - if there's a useful pattern hidden amongst the uncountable ones and zeros that submerge our world, the digital detective in me must seek it out. I'm data and sector agnostic, really; it's the pattern and process that's interesting. When not buried in my laptop, nose pressed against cold, hard code, I also spend a considerable amount of time teaching maths, biology, and programming - both at the University of Oxford, within the local area, or online. That is, when I'm not scurrying about in the undergrowth chasing wee beasties, or getting all soggy hauling myself up some drizzly peak somewhere. Say hello!
