Starting out in NHS residential care for people with learning difficulties and challenging behaviour, going on to qualify as a registered general nurse in 2001, finally obtaining my MSc in Healthcare Education in 2017. I am passionate about working with and alongside people creating a friendly, connected environment and allowing people to be present as themselves. My main aim is to help people develop themselves even if a little step, its a step. This might be learning one new thing about the human body, one aspect that might support their professional career. Things start with small steps. I pride myself on the connection I make with individuals in the learning environments or projects I work on. I have a 'can do' attitude (verbal feedback), 'it's nice to do something for someone' .......simply because you want to. My main areas of work in the NHS over the past 10 years has been around developing preceptorship for newly qualified nurses starting in the organisation, representing my organisation in schools, colleges and university. I have worked in partnership with universities around student nurse placements and quality assurance. Additionally my role has lead me to support many people in 1:1 situations, revalidation for nurses and currently in recruitment and brand new rotations posts for newly qualified nurses. Additionally since 2015 I have produced and deliver the care certificate for the organisation. Meeting so many people is such a pleasure, those first steps really do count.
