It had a picture of a girl about my age. Underneath was a paragraph explaining that the girl needed a kidney transplant. The family was asking for financial assistance to help pay with medical bills. That was my wake-up call. For the first time, I realized some people had healthcare needs beyond what their families could provide. This was the beginning of my journey to serve others. I had a mission. I was now focused on raising money so this girl could get the care she needed. I decided to collect "return for deposit" bottles, and by the end of summer, I had collected approximately two hundred dollars. When my mom and I delivered the money to the family, my heart was filled with compassion and a feeling of accomplishment. Without realizing it at the time, I had my first taste of empathy, advocating, problem-solving, planning, accounting and social responsibility. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. I have made it my goal to find solutions to improve access to care. I am passionate about improving the patient experience, the healthcare culture, and the healthcare business to ensure quality, cost efficient and safe care for all people.
