Just hired as the Director of Admissions for Eastern Virginia Medical School, for the past fifteen years, I have worked in medical school admissions. I began my higher educational career at the University of Pennsylvania followed by Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 2005 for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. In 2012, I served as the Associate Director of Admissions, where I was primarily responsible for diversity recruitment. In 2010, when the college introduced a new Doctor of Pharmacy program at the GA Campus, I became responsible for the admissions process. In addition to my work in admissions, I serve as a confidant, counselor, and advisor to the many students. I am a strong supporter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), & Latinx Medical Student Association (LMSA), as I am committed to reducing health disparities among minority populations. In previous years, I served as the program director and advisor to the Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program (HPREP), a pipeline high school program to expose diverse students to various health professions and graduate programs at PCOM. In 2006, 2012, 2013, 21016 & 2019, I was acknowledged as Mentor of the Year by the PCOM SNMA Chapter. In 2012, I was the recipient of the Outstanding Service and Leadership Award from the Northeast Region (NE) of the National Association of Medical Minority Educators (NAMME). In 2015, I was the recipient of the Multicultural Leadership Award by the Pennsylvania Diversity Council. I was the recipient of the Diversity Leadership and Emerging Leadership Awards in 2018 from the National Association of Medical Minority Educators and in 2019 received the Salute to Greatness Award. During my tenure at PCOM, there was a significant increase in the number of accepted underrepresented minority students in the medical program and PCOM was noted as one of the top osteopathic medical colleges for Hispanic students. I am an active member of my community and an active member of many professional organizations .
