Under her 15-year leadership, PeopleFund grew to a nationally recognized CDFI and thought leader on economic opportunity. To date, PeopleFund has invested more than 130 million in underserved communities Margo has provided leadership on initiatives to foster vibrant and healthy civic life. Addressing fast changing demographics in the Austin region, she conceptualized and led the Mayor’s Taskforce on Aging in partnership with the St. David’s and the Seton Foundations, and then launched AustinUP, a nonprofit that addresses the needs of older adults. Margo has served as Chairwoman for the Austin Mayor’s Small Business Task Force, and as a member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Institutional Racism in Finance. She has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas, where she has taught graduate level courses on designing effective community initiatives. A champion of innovative ideas, Margo has authored numerous publications, including the chapter Small Business and Entrepreneurship for “The NEXT American Opportunity” She has provided leadership on boards, including the National CDFI Coalition and the Texas Association of CDC's. Margo has received extensive recognition for her work, including the Exceptional Executive Leadership Award (Austin Community Foundation); “Profiles in Power” winner (Austin Business Journal); Social Entrepreneur of the Year (Ernst & Young); and “Austinite of the Year”. She was also chosen as a German Marshall Fellow.
