I attended Long Island University in Brooklyn NY and received a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. In addition, I've earned a Master's degree in Education from Bowie State University . I have worked in the behavioral health field for several years providing services to individuals, couples, families, and groups. My experience includes in-patient treatment for co-occurring disorders, severe mental health diagnoses, intensive out-patient treatment, private practice, and public school settings. I've worked with children to adults ages 10-64. I find guidance in the cognitive, behavioral, and psychoanalytic schools of thought. I have two primary approaches to treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). However, I can be eclectic (guided by other approaches and techniques) as people are individual and their presenting problems are unique to them. Depending on your treatment goal we will work together to find the best approach. It is important to my practice to not fit all clients into one box. My niche is working with clients suffering from Anxiety, Depression, and other Mood disorders. I believe that our negative Core Belief influences how we think about events, which increases the level of anxiety and depressed moods. I operate from an insight-oriented therapeutic stance as I deem change that happens inside-out to be most lasting; while at the same time encouraging outside-in changes that can be used as a spring board to promote insight for an effective lasting change. Which is why CBT and SFBT are my primary approaches to treatment. I have a passion for counseling individuals through their journey. It is not easy asking for help and doing so with a stranger. It is important to my practice that I provide a warm and welcoming environment and to develop a genuine therapeutic relationship with all clients, thus easing the journey.
