Manuel Salvatierra Email & Phone Number | As a mechanical engineering student at the University of Texas at Austin, the Cockrell School of Engineering has had a direct impact on my development as an individual. In a series of rigorous courses including Thermodynamics, Statics, Fluid Mechanics and Physics, I have learned to develop critical thinking capabilities, efficient time management skills, and analytical competence. Furthermore, in my high school career, I applied leadership and interpersonal skills to revive and improve a dying football program. Through such engaging experiences, I have applied these skills to the work realm. The summer of 2017, I interned for National Grid USA, a natural gas and utilities company in Melville, New York, working as a Gas Project Estimating Intern. As an intern, I spent the bulk of my time on projects that allowed me to apply creative and critical thinking to promote cost estimating efficiency for natural gas transmission and distribution projects. I was taught programming languages, such as VBA, to accurately predict overall construction project costs, including contingency factors. Moreover, for my first two years in college, I worked part time for an Alumni Fund Raising Organization called “Friends of Alec”. I had to make a connection with the alumni and engage their interests in order to generate a successful donation. I believe I am a strong student academically and have the skills to overcome adversity in a work environment. Post graduation, I aim to work Full-Time in a dynamic organizational environment that will allow me to utilize these learned skills and make an immediate impact.
