Making College Affordable Charles Walters Email & Phone Number | Certified College Planning Specialist WHAT I DO: I coach college bound high school students and their families in choosing a best fit college, getting admitted to a college of choice, and finding the money to pay for it. This has all changed since the parents went to college and continues to evolve. I will pull back the curtain and expose the mysterious criteria and decision systems. WHERE I DO IT: I work with clients in person in Northern California. I work with clients by email and Skype Anywhere in the United States. In either case much of the work is done on a website created for each student which includes financial analysis, college fit analysis, and a checklist of 45 items with dates and responsibilities assigned. WHO I WORK WITH: Families with a high school Junior can get good results. If the student is a sophomore it can be a little better. If the student is a senior we can still help but not as much because there is not time to do some of the important things. Those parents often say, "I wish we had started sooner." WHY I DO IT: I enjoy helping families and students make good decisions at a crossroads in their life. And I enjoy getting the reports that the students are happy and successful in their college careers, staying with the same college and with their chosen major. MY STORY: After 20 years as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) new clients were asking me to help them with the 100,000+ problem called college. I found the student financial aid and scholarship problems so challenging that it became a full time job. I found that to get the best outcomes you can't separate the three legged stool of choosing a college, getting admitted and finding the free funds to help pay for it.
