I have had extensive course work in disciplines such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and mathematics. I chose to go into engineering due to my strong analytical interest for mathematics. My studies in the Biomedical Engineering department were focused on utilizing my knowledge of engineering and applying it to product development of medical devices. At the University of Connecticut, I led two teams of engineers in development of a mechanical and electrical medical device. One of the tasks was to design a novel, safe, and robust alternative auto-injector through a reliable spring driver that delivered fluid directly to the bloodstream in a short period of time. Three alternative designs, complete with parts and assembly, were made in Solid Works. A prototype of the final design was 3-D printed, assembled, and tested for proof of concept. The other project that I led was developing a device to alleviate back pain due to poor posture. The goal was to construct an innovated continuous feedback system consisting of wearable circuitry working together to detect posture, transmit information, and obtain input to and from the user. The final design contained two electric boards communicating wirelessly through radio frequency, with minimal time delay, to relay input regarding the user’s posture.
