Madeleine Carruthers Email & Phone Number | I currently work as postdoctoral researcher for Kathryn Elmer at the University of Glasgow, investigating comparative phenotypic plasticity in radiating and non-radiating species of salmonid fishes reared on contrasting trophic diets in a common garden experiment. Prior to this I completed my PhD in molecular ecology and evolution (in April 2018), with Kathryn Elmer and Colin Adams at the University of Glasgow. My thesis "Adaptive divergence in fishes: insights from ecological transcriptomics" harnessed the power of next-generation sequencing technologies (namely RNAseq), to elucidate the molecular phenotype of divergent species pairs of salmonids, from newly emerging and established divergent populations. During my PhD, I also generated publicly available transcriptomic reference assemblies for four ecologically and economically important species of salmonids. I currently also work as a course coordinator for PR Statistics Ltd, which offer a range of training courses in statistical analysis and programming for ecologists and evolutionary biologists. And I am currently collaborating with the Burdett lab at the Lyell Centre in Edinburgh to develop and optimise molecular lab protocols for red coralline algae species. I have a keen interest in all things aquatic, and a passion for research into how organisms can adapt and evolve to novel or changing environment.
