I was a high-level athlete, playing hockey for Bowling Green State University in 1979 on a full scholarship. While there I was offered a half scholarship to play baseball, but could only play one of the two sports. In 1980 I went to the Sherbrooke Beavers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). After Junior Hockey, I had the option of playing in Europe, but opted to return to St. Francis Xavier University on a full Hockey Canada scholarship as well as scholarships from the Hull Olympic Hockey Team. I transferred to the University of Guelph, during which time I was offered a position at Armstrong Farms, the leading Standardbred breeding facility in Canada, an industry I was passionate about. After three and a half years at Armstrong Farms, working the first year in the nursery, then promoted to Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the farm, I left to open a public racing stable, which I've been running successfully for the past 30 years. I have actively raised, trained, bought and sold many high-end horses throughout the years. I've had stables in Canada and the US, as well as several countries in Europe. Aside from business, I've been quite active in our local community for the past 12 years, wearing many hats in both youth hockey and youth baseball. My goal has been to make playing sports at every age and level a positive and enjoyable experience.
