Luisa Mendez Aia Email & Phone Number | Luisa Méndez is a Project Director at SHoP Architects. She received a Bachelor of Design Degree at the University of Florida (Summa Cum Laude), and a Master of Architecture at Columbia University, where she received the Excellence in Total Design award. Luisa's career has been defined by her leadership and project management skills. She has guided large teams involving diverse stakeholder groups, presenting novel concepts, and forging consensus to arrive at informed design decisions—all while working toward innovative and responsible design. Upon graduation, Luisa joined SHoP Architects in NYC, where she has led multiple projects, including the masterplan and Phase 1 for Fulbright University Vietnam, the first independent, non-profit institution of higher education in the country. Luisa was the design lead for the Timber Tower, a 10-story, residential mass-timber building, meant to serve as a transformative and sustainable prototype showcasing CLT (cross-laminated timber) as the main structural component. This project was the recipient of the Tall Wood Building Prize sponsored by the USDA. In 2016, Luisa led the design and execution for the Design Miami fair entry. Two pavilions showcasing novel 3D-printing techniques, considered at the time to be the largest 3D-printed objects ever produced, pushing the boundaries of architectural technology. Following the fair, the pavilions were reassembled at the Miami Design District for two years, where they served as the focal point for farmers markets and performances. The structure was later relocated to Nairobi, Kenya in conjunction with the United Nations Environmental Assembly, and now has a permanent home at the University of Nairobi. In 2019, while still at SHoP, Luisa and her family relocated to Tampa, where she has been leading the NeoCity Masterplan in Osceola County. She is thrilled to bring her experience in mixed-use projects & to take part in transforming a city very close to her home.
